I may start driving to work (22 miles each way). I figure in the winter, I can use my father's Honda that he leaves me while he's in Florida. In the spring/summer, I would be using the S2 to make the trip.

Any other daily drivers out there with thoughts, suggestions, or warnings against?

I used to(and will soon be again) daily driving my 83. It was great fun and I don't see any reason why not. The only downside could be alot of stop-and-go traffic with the 5-speed. But that's not really a big deal, it lets you practic your clutch control.

Well, my S2 does fine as a daily driver doing 50 miles each day for the past two years. The car came with old, Z-rated tires that were useless on anything but dry pavement, so I got some high performance all seasons for the winter months. I almost got snow tires, but our winters are too chaotic with many warm (45+) days followed by snow/ice/rain and this sounds like a better solution.

For when it's too bad out to drive the S2, I got a small solar panel to trickle charge the battery for $10 at Harbor Freight. Without that, the battery is dead in about three weeks of sitting in cold weather.

Not S2's but I drove a 1977 924 daily for 3 years when the car was 21+ years old, drove an 87 924S for 3 years daily up until last October when it finally failed emissions, and now driving an 87 944S that had been sitting for 3 years wrecked - daily since october. Only time I got stuck out of all three cars is when I neglected to change the timing belt on the 924S. I think they are great daily cars as long as you have a backup car of some sort for when something breaks. Replacement parts arent always available in stock at the small local parts stores.

I may get a 22 mile commute split evenly with highway and open local in about a year. that would justify another toy.

my first year with the S2 i put on about 7500 miles, sharing driving with the Legend Coupe and the RX7. Have no fear, and enjoy the car.

I assume I should look to buy a backup DME relay? Otherwise, my car is in tip-top shape. And I am guessing driving it every day is better than having it sit all week in the garage.

I've been driving mine about 60 miles every day. I'm pretty sure my car could use some new shocks/struts, but I've had no problems at all.

I don't have a spare DME relay either. How often do they fail?

My Turbo will be my daily driver/only car. Itll be going everywhere. Hopefully ill only be doing this for a year or something.

I drive mine every day (only 10 miles round trip...that's what you get for living in the city). However, I also drive it as much as I can on the weekends and for any meetings I have in Baton Rouge and Lafayette (180 and 300 miles round trip respectively). The only times I don't drive it is if the weather forecasts heavy rain (as it doesn't take much of a puddle to flood out...of course, that's what the Expedition is for) or if I have more than one person with me (again, the Expedition).

I do keep a spare DME relay in the glove box...better safe than sorry.

I've driven about 20k on my car since I bought it in August. Trust me, the more you drive it, the more it loves you.

I drive my S 20 miles each way every day. Gives me something to look forward to goint to work and going home.

My 83 was a daily driver/autocross/DE car for two plus years (until it was rear ended while sitting at a traffic light and totalled. Only one breakage, the shifter clip (I think that's what it is called broke). Maintenance was actually less than my old 5.0 Mustang, not to mention gas. I put 34K miles on the 944 in two years.

My 86 N/A my daily driver now. About 35 miles round trip to work, plus the weekends. So far it's been fine. It even did reasonably well in the snow, though forget it in more than 3-4 inches, unless you want scratch up the nose.

I wouldn't be worried about driving it daily, unless you are concerned about racking up alot of miles.

My car has 99k miles. I figure if I put 6k a year on, it can't do much harm. It will still be over 100k when I sell it eventually.

Otherwise, I never drive the damned thing! No point in having it sit around waiting for the once in a weekend drive, especially in the nice spring/summer weather.
