Question autothority chip

ok i know this thread has been overposted out the wazoo but i was really wondering if the autothority chip for the n/a really gives a 16 hp increase. i didn't think that much of a gain was possible.

hmmm i don't think it's a typo dave. all the rest of the chips they have on the site have similar numbers....14, 16, 17. so i'm still confused about it. one person on rennlist (i forget who) said they bought it from someone who worked there and that it was really 16 hp. any ideas?

sounds high for an n/a chip.

i wouldnt expect any more than 5 seriously, you can't get THAT much by altering the fuel map and/or advancing the timing.

I have a Weltmeister Chip for my NA, I was told I would get a 4% increase or something... dunno how accurate that was, but it did seem to run a bit smoother after I installed it...some guy on ebay was selling them for super cheap, I dunno if they "fell off the back of a truck" or anything, but who am I to ask...I have to buy premium gas for it, but I should be doing that anyways...

someone claims to have achieved at least 40 hp by installing a waste gate in addition to the chip and drilling your booster valve

NA cars are tough to upgrade with chips-only because you really want to get more air through the engine. WIthout extra air, there's not much you can do except for advance the ignition timing. In which case, you need high-octane gas to be safe. This is only good for so much increase, I've never seen a dyno-chart of before & after getting more than 5hp.

"someone claims to have achieved at least 40 hp by installing a waste gate in addition to the chip and drilling your booster valve"

Stock Turbo typically gets 180-190rwhp. With our GURU Chip upgrade, it's a gain of about +50hp. TurboS cars are usually in the 210-215rwhp range. On our 18psi Chip Upgrade, it's up to 270-280rwhp or a +60hp gain. Check out http://www.gururacing.net

here is where the 16bhp comes from
http://autoth.desyne.com/siteshopper.htm?cat=91
One says 17bhp and the other 14bhp (i'll have the 17bhp please!).

I've got an APE chip in my car (i've only had it a month so still finding treats!). i've not got round to checking the chip itself, but the sticker on the gas cap says 'use 92 or higher octane fuel - APE chip equipped'. Is this 92 gas really neccessary? or even possible that a chip can alter the octane fuel required? Or could the past owner have modded it to require higher octane fuel? There is also an original (i guess) sticker saying 'Oktan min 91 ROZ/RON' (see next post) - i presume Oktan is german for octane! and pretty sure 91 ron is about 87 gas here.

It would be good to find out if these 14 or 17 or 16bhp gains are made up and whether the fuel has anything to do with it - and find out what fuel i should put in it.

cheers

doh - i've just (properly) read danno's post about advancing the igintion timing and increasing the octane - that answers one of my questions.

That was me. He said that he saw the dyno charts and that the general impression was that it was a genuine 14 hp increase on my '87. But then, who's to say that they gave him accurate info?

Anywho, for what it's worth, there was a noticable improvment in driving. I'm not sure that there is really a 14 hp improvment (my butt dyno is a bit optimistic) but the car does feel more rev happy and all-around more enjoyable to drive than stock. I'm not sure it's a $500 improvement (under normal circumstances, but considering how hard it is to get more power out of theses cars, well...), but it was definately worth the $2-250 I paid for it. <shrugs>
