Default coil over kit instalation guide?

im thinking of doing this in the spring.

the kit from paragon looks awesome, but first i want to see what sort of procedure is involved with installing something like this. I looked at clarks garage but in the suspension section it says coming soon. Does a guide for this exist out there some were?

one more thing. I have a 86 n/a, what sort of shocks do i have. sealed or rebuildable?

der... ok i did just find a walkthrough on clarks garage, but If anyone knows of a different one (preferably with more pictures) and more about putting a coil-over kit in there that would be sweet.

ok wait now i do have a question.

in this picture the tube is alot longer and has the lower perch mostly cut off.


now in this picture it looks liek the top of that tube is just cut off about were the O-ring was int he first picture. Is that whats going on or are these 2 different types of struts?

The first picture is of a rebuildable strut like yours. The threaded top is where the external galnd nut will seal the insert into the strut. Also, in that picture I have "deleted" the lower spring perch to make it specifically for-use with the ARHK. You do not have to do this - it IS strongly recommended but will make the strut unuseable with a OE spring if you at some point wanted to change it back to stock.

The second picture is of a late-model strut modified for use with the 8641-1414S strut insert for sealed strut cars (87+ 944, 86-88 951). Part of the modification include cutting approximately 45mm off the top... this is why it looks shorter. In this picture I have shown the ARHK installed over the strut to illustrate why you would want to delete the perch. It limits travel of the adjustable lower perch by up to 1.5" (of a total 4.5").

Now ask Skip nicely, if we buy two kits at once now as the Rennlist Members that we are, we might be able to get a small discount, and we live close enough together that Skip could ship one box rather than two..Makes his life a bit easier...

Yes. For the rebuildable struts with external gland nut (83-86) you must remove the gland nut first. For the cut-n-drill sealed conversion struts it'll slip right over.

Damian, Hehe well I guess I'm ready, I got some birthday money and 3 un-cashed paychecks sitting in my glove box. So lets do it. Also I'm gonna need you too take a look at my tail lights. The one is cracked but the frame and everything is good, you might be able to use it as a core or whatever to rebuild into one of your nice sets and then sell me one of the new ones.

Skip, I think damian means to ask if maybe we could get some special members/group purchase deal.... Heh let us know.

I've got a 2.5" coilover installation procedure on my 951 RacerX website with step-by-step photos. I actually retrofitted the 944NA struts to my 951 so that I could swap out strut-inserts quickly for testing. Also went a little overboard and semi-permanently attached the coil-overs to eliminate the little clunking noises you get in parking lots. I've also measured the inner wheel clearances before and after: Wheels-ClearanceBeforeAfter.jpg.

Basically, the coil-over kits let me go from stock 16x7" wheels all the way to 17x10.5" without any rubbing issues.
