I am not sure if the Sony's i had in the car when i got it were the 4621's but i do or rather did have the 4x6's by sony. The bass response is nothing to be proud of, the highend is good at best. I replaced them with some entry level 4x6 plates from Alpine and was VERY happy! The difference in price is minimal but you will be rewarded in the end just by putting out the extra couple bucks.

I don't care at all for any sony car stereo stuff. The head units have great signal to noise ratings (around 120dB), however, they seem to lack on the preamp outputs (most of them around 2V). We installed some of the sony speakers in the 86 911 and they did not sound clear at all, soon after replaced them with kicker components (little bit better).

A friend has a Sony Explode in his Contour- it's ~4 yrs old- he paid ~$175 for it- he has stock speakers (the contours had 6x9's all around) & his stereo blows mine away... All he did was throw the FU**ING Sony in & it was done.... It drive me nuckin futs! I've been screwing w/mine consistently for >4yrs & it STILL isn't that great... The bass is the big thing- the Sony puts out excellent low bass- sub- not sure how it would work w/REEAL subs, but, when you set it right, you can hear the subs through his regular speakers a good bit, considering- it's pretty impressive for $175- not sure how it would work in other cars, etc, but...
