Question Heater Core Replacement Early 944

I want to replace the hoses to the heater core and check out what shape it's in. It doesn't leak, but a previous owner had bypassed it for some reason, and it is 20 years old. Has anyone done this? It's really buried in the dash. I searched the archives and found an inquiry from 2 years ago which no one responded to.

It is under the blower motor. You have to remove the blower and then you get to it it's pretty easy after you get the blower off there is hoses that go to and away from it. I have a good one that didn't leak when removed if you need one pm me. It's not that hard just in a bad spot.

Seb, maybe late models are different. Can't get it out through the blower motor bit without a saws all.

Lew, try hooking it back up and see what happens. Don't know where you are, but if you can avoid it, don't do it. As you can see from my old thread it's a complete PIA

On the early cars, the hoses go thru the firewall and connect to the heater core where there is no "easy" way to get to the clamps. You will have to remove your console, the complete dash, the blower motor from inside the engine compartment area, and then the entire heater housing assembly (with core in it). This is what has to happen to get to the hose clamps/heater core on an early car if you have the AC unit installed on your car. (you may not have to remove the heater housing from car if you do not have the AC. But everything else still applies). Not a quick and easy job. The procedure (if you want to call it that) is outlined in the 924 shop manuals since it is a carry over from the 924. This is something I also have to do yet! Not looking forward to it! Sid, I know YOU can elaborate a lot more on this issue. Good luck!

Just figured the other thread told it all.

Suffice to say I'd rather rub my ********* raw with coarse sandpaper, then pour rubbing alcohol on them than do that again.

All this just to replace the old hoses. I took out the passenger seat, A/C cover, and the glove box to peer in there and I can't even see the hose clamps. I've got a bypass hose, maybe I'll just drive around with that and a couple of gallons of water. When one of the old hoses fails I'll slap on the bypass hose and get it fixed then.

note to self 2, wear swat outfit.

but yeah lew, i agree with everyone. ive parted out a range rover classic. was tough enough to get to on that. which has a huge dash. doesnt seem like something id wish to try, but if you have a bunch of free time, go for it i suppose.

On second thought, thats a good idea in your last post.. if it aint broke (yet) dont fix it (yet)

The local SWAT team and I have an agreement.

I have them out-gunned, and they have me out-numbered.
