In general, the basic answer to the main question is yes, the calipers off a std 968 will work on an 86 951 w/o having to change anything else.

Sure there are a couple superceded caliper part numbers since 1986 which include the change from 38/36 mm pistons to 40/36 mm in 1987 and then another change from the scraper ring piston seals to the protection cap style (951 351 421(2) 00 thru 03).

And yes, these all show up in the PET program, you just get the superceded part when you try to order the original part number. For example I show the ’86T con-rod as being 944 103 001 00 (is this the forged rod?) but it says its dropped and replaced by 944 103 008 00.

Good luck!
Yea i already have a set of late 951 phone dials i just had straightened. It looks like this project is do-able after all. So what i have now is the calipers from a non-M030 968 with pads...i will still need the rotors and hubs from an 86 951 to keep the offset the same is my thinking. If i use the 86 951 that will keep my front end as the early offset for the late offset wheels to clear the fenders (man does that sound funny!).

Will this all work with the standard struts i have?

Now what about the rear of the car?

Thanks guys for all you input its truly appreciated!

Like I went into detail with you during our exchange of PM's the other day, it will not work with the struts you have. You need the same struts out of that 86 turbo car that the spindles are coming from, or any 944NA struts from 87-89 (non-m030). This is due to the spindle width difference and bolt pattern difference. Yes, some people will say you can make the early N/A (and 924S) struts work with the 951 spindle if you make a 2mm spacer and elongate the bolt holes in the strut, but I don't recommend it. I tried that and did not feel safe with it.

The rear, again, is a simple bolt up. You will need the 4 bolts and 4 spacers from the rear 968/951 calipers in order to bolt them up, along with the proper early offset (86 951) rear rotors (2 of them, for reference). You may need to trim your rear dust shield slightly where it may touch the caliper, depending on which dust sheild is on there (I have seen one that works OK with no trimming, mine I had to shave about 2-3mm worth of material off of it).
