Default Ref/Speed sensor bracket - best way to loosen

Hi guys,

I am replacing my speed and reference sensors. The old sensors came out no problem (thank God) but my issue is I cannot seem to access the hex bolts that lock the bracket in to adjust the air gap.

I have 6mm allen keys and a 6mm allen socket - however no matter how i contort my hand I can't seem to get either wrench into the bolts.

I have the intake off, but everything else in place.

Is there some trick I am missing? A tool that I am missing?

I wouldn't think you should need to adjust your sensors. Carefully compare the height of your old sensors with your new ones. My guess is that they'll be extremely close. You can then take a set of calipers and check the distance from the top surface of the bracket where the sensors it with the magnetic studs in the flywheel below,

Thanks for the reply.

The reason I am adjusting the height is that I am trying to use VEMS standalone ECU. What was happening is that over 3500 RPM the car would misfire and buck and not run right. According to my tuner it looks like the ref sensor is not outputting enough signal.

The old ref. and speed sensors were very old and were crumbly. When I put a sensor in the speed sensor hole with a 0.8mm washer glued to it, it does not touch the flywheel teeth.

I want to make sure that this is set correctly, so I want to be able to adjust this.

Ah, I understand. I can only assume you're using plenty of plenty of penetrating oil as these bolts can be well fused in place. I wonder if something like this

wouldn't help, along with a swivel handle 1/4" ratchet.

The allen head bolt closest to the engine can be with a removed with a low profile flexible 1/4" drive that accepts short 6 mm hex shank. The another hex bolt has to be removed from underneath the car using a long extension and a flexible adapter with a 6 mm hex socket. You may need another person the line up the socket to the second allen head bolt. There's a long DIY tread with pictures on the 944 Turbo forum. After I removed the allen head bolts I replaced them with M8 hex heads to make this an easier job in the future.

Good Luck.
