Gear shift slop fixes?

I recently replaced the gearshift lever in the 83 with a brand new part and bushing.
I know these can be rebuilt, but not having the necessary tools, I bit the bullet and bought the part instead.
The shifting is better, but I still have more side-to-side slop than in the S2 or the 951. What else can be repaired or replaced down in there to fix this problem?
TIA

The ball cup at the bottom of the shifter and the connecting arm at the tranny input side (under car, atop tranny - has rubber bushings that fail). Someone out there made a performance replacement for this a while back - can't remember who. Replaced the steel and rubber version with a double-ended metal bushing equipped type.

I did replace the $9 bushing below the shifter, so I guess my problem is at the tranny input side.
Let me know if you come up with anything I can do about it.
Thanks, Skip!

there was a post on this a while ago. Basically there are 3 bolts to check back there. One controls front-back motion, another for right-left, and one more. Those are by the top of the tranny above the axle shafts. I've been meaning to tighten mine, but I don't see the car much since it's nice and warm in a friend's garage.

Try this page for what the linkage looks like back there. You can see the bolts I'm talking about. Please keep me updated on how hard this is, because I'm in for this task soon.
