Default new sway bar bushing instalation

I have a 24mm bar with new bushings i ordered from Ian at 944online.com. What can i use to slip the bushings onto the bar. im pretty sure using any sort of oil based liquid would be bad because from what I've heard oil destroys the bushings or dries them out or something. should i jsut open a container of butter and spread it on there or what. heh

thanks

Try windex - that's what my BMW manuals suggest.

When trying to get a bushing into a bracket for the front sway on my 924S, i used a rubber mallet, WD40 and a piece of 2x4 to prevent making direct contact with the bushing. Took about 5-10 minutes, but it finally worked.

I used hand soap. Same stuff I use to put rubber grips on handlebars.

Silicone spray or a very fine smear of Moly grease.

Silicone spray or paste, no petroleum based products.

ok got those on, now for the outer ones. how the hell do you get them into those holders. not even that, how do you get the old ones out. im thinking im jsut going to reuse them just because it seems to crazy getting the new ones into those outer holders.

well i didnt get those outer bushings swapped, I jsut reused the old ones. Then i realised that those bushings are probly the most important ones on the bar. So I'll have to try that again sometime soon.

here something to watch out for. This is what oil and gunk will do to your bushings.

These 2 bushings are the inner 2 off my stock bar, the one on the left is the one from the passenger side. My guess is that power steeing fluid got all over it and made it look like this. the one on the right is fine because it didnt get any gunk on it. I could pretty much pull it apart with my hands once i got it off.

watch out for fluids being spilled on your bushings, and not just the sway bar ones.

Brett,
Just cut the old ones off the ends. Use whatever type of lubrication you choose from the above mentioned suggestions, press on the middle outside edge of the bushing so it caves in and it will slide right in to the holder.
