EVER broken down?

I saw Kevin Buckler have his right rear blow out at 150 MPH at Daytona. That looked pretty freaky. Luckily it was in the straight so he just spun across the pavement and then into the grass. I would imagine that you would just hear a loud bang or something, and then the car would jerk hard in that direction.

My 924S died in the center lane right next to the concrete barrier in rush hour, but only because I had never checked the timing belt and it was at at least 90,000 miles from the previous belt change. Other time was when the exhaust broke off at the front of the converter. It broke because one of those rubber donut hangers had been missing since I got the car and the weight of the converter pulled the pipe apart. I wired it up at midnight in the rain and drove it home. Sounded like a nascar car!

My blowout occurred while I was traveling second in a hi-speed three car caravan... probably 80-85mph. The right front blew while we were going past an 18 wheeler and the car moved over very close to the truck. Although I wasn't immediately certain what had happened, I assumed blowout and didn't want to brake too quickly and I couldn't move to the right because of the truck. Very stressful few seconds. Luckily the tire remained intact and the bimmer on my *** didn't run over me.

I blew a timing belt once, and in college my dme relay went out and the car about died in the busiest intersection turning left...it stumbled and barely stayed alive long enough for me to pull into a spot kill it and refire then got it home ok...

I voted nope even though the answer is yes... on my PPI, the mechanic managed to totaly destroy the coupling for the cam speed sensor and not tell me (this is Performance Imports.. they like to break things and not tell you, did it twice to me). I made it about a tenth of a mile before it totally fell apart.... If they wouldn't have touched it, OR would have done something to try and fix it/notify me of it the car would have NEVER let me down.
That's why I voted nope.... stupid overpaid mechanic. Frickin money (iq) with wrenches.

Yep, my trans went out on my way to the Indy Supercross. Did everybody know that Indiana closes at noon. I had to find a shop and a rental so we could still make the race. The focus rental was a less than stellar ride, but we made it just in time. This year we are taking our SportTrac!

I have had CV joint bolts crack, half shafts break in half, starters die, alternators die, electrical fires, several flat tires, fuel pump failed, AFM died and of course a DME relay failure. Every single one of these items caused individual break downs or no starts when I was not at home, and able to fix the problem.

Once in the 83, but I asked for it. The alternator bearings were grinding away and I still drove it until the big red light came on and it just rolled down the hill and came to a full stop.
That was 9 years ago and I learned an important lesson: never ignore the warning signs when your car "talks" to you like that.

1 month after I bought my 944 the water pump blew. Nice pool of water when I came out of work.
2 years later, cam chain broke literally weeks before I was having the chain/tensioner replaced.
October 2001, rod bearing

Clutch went no early warning signs.90 k. To make it even more embarrising it happened 200 miles from home, during a PCA rally. Then old rubber went ,first sign was a hard shift,10 miles later it wouldnt shift!
