I don't really understand then...
It looks like a cam cover to me, and I thought it had a gasket around the edge.
I don't want to remove the balance shaft, it looks like the housing is just leaking to the outside. So I suppose I dont' need any O-rings. I must have this all wrong in my head =(

Zero, you are talking about the long cover that goes the length of the balance shaft, that is held on with about 10 bolts. This cover uses Loctite 574 to seal with. No gasket, you coat the flanges with 574 and torque it in the proper sequence. If you are going to remove the cover the you would need to replace the O-ring in the back and front, and put in a new front seals.

So I would have to remove the balance shaft. =(
Well, if I'm removing it, then I might as well change the bearings for it while I am in there. So, why not do the top too?...
Hmm, this project is going to get expensive quick =(
So, the pulley would have to come off of the balance shaft to get to the front seal.
Hmm, is it possible to just pull and re-seal the cover itself?
Very helpful information, that is the cover I was talking about. Thank you,

You would not have to remove the balance shaft to reseal the cover. When the cover is off it would be easy to change the bearing and front bushing if you wanted to, you wouldn't have to. You could just reseal the cover buy the 2 O-rings a front seal and the little thin onion seal and be done with it.

Hmm, I think maybe I will, I would rather not have it leak again.
Hopefully my parts get here early enough for me to do all the work next week.

BTW I always see this kit for sale on rennbid, it includes front seals, belts, rollers and a tensioning tool, anyone have experience with this kit?

Hey, I'll be taking tons of pics. I try to document everything I do on my car.
I would be more than happy to give you a hand on your 944 when you get back to Calgary and bring it out of storage.
I have never tried that kit, sorry.
I'll need the good luck though, every time I touch my car something unexpected comes up.
