Stuck brakes
was driving today when noticed the front brakes were sticking and pedal for very stiff. Was only a few blocks from home so I drove slowly Brakes sticking pretty hard the whole way. I will have to tear into it tomorrow and see what I find

I bet there's corrosion where the pads sit, pushing the pads too tight to move. Do a search for porsche 944 caliper brake "bloom" and you'll see what I mean. I got some on mine, though I filed the pads to fit. Next time, I'll remove the calipers and fix properly

That's what I'm thinking. I just did rear brakes so fronts were next anyways. Hope it's just corrosion bc one vehicle had similar symptoms and ended up being brake line collapsed internally looked perfectly normal looking at it until I pulled line and fluid could only flow one way. Hope I don't have to get that far in.

I researched Porsche 944 Caliper brake "bloom" and couldn't find any written references anywhere. This is of immediate concern as I am having dragging brake pad issues even though I have new brake lines, pads and caliper seals. If you can find it, would you mind forwarding it?

Unfortunately, no pics. As you know, the pads slide into the calipers nice and loose. Until they don't. What happens is the aluminum inner body of the caliper where the caliper sits "blooms" or corrodes: it builds up this hard white stuff. This pushes up the steel bracket that the pads sit on, effectively making the slot for the pads smaller, and the pads no longer fit. They also no longer slide back.
This is easy to check: take off a wheel, release the spring holding the pads, and see if you can wiggle or take a pad out. If they are stuck, now you know why.
Some people, like me, file down the pads. The proper way is to take the caliper off, take the steel brackets out, clean the corrosion and re-seal with paint or something. I'll do that next time.
I bet this is the same "plate lift" MAGK944 is talking about

I had the same issue on all my 951 calipers. My brakes are still marginal although I've replaced or rebuilt darn near everything (except the master cylinder) I still don't get the quality of stopping power I expect from these brakes. I ground down the Hawk street pads so they freely float but regardless of all the work I've done on my brake systems, I still can't get the brake power I expect.
