I've never understood this. What horrible things could happen if somebody saw a picture of my car and number plate on the internet that wouldn't happen if they saw it on the street? Am I missing something obvious deserving of a dunce cap? Will they show up at my house and steal my car because they know somebody at the D.M.V.?

If you have the proper resources, you can track a plate number to a specfic person with a phone number and address. On one occasion a guy cut off my father on the expressway causing a near miss accident. He copied the guys plate number and when he got to work harassed the guy for the next few nights by phone.
