Default a real (75 hp 20psi) electric supercharger?

While flipping through the issue of Sport Compact Car I just bought, i found an add for This . I know there is alot of talk about the leaf blowers being sold on eBay, but this looks like it might really work.

not sure if its been posted here before, but I thought I would see what you guys think.

Notice the specification: Maximum Duration · 15 seconds
If it does actually work it would only be a 1/4 mile application before it drains the batteries...interesting though I hate to say

Electric superchargers don't use standard BOV's, they use electric ones..... D'uh

Is that even a BOV? Almost looks like some odd form of air filter intake or something....

If it is a BOV, it's a quite large one at that. It looks like it's designed like the HKS BOV. The HKS had an adjustment bolt that came out the top like that, and the actual vaccuum hook up was on the side of the unit. That, of course, is just a wild guess.

It's an aweful lot of money to spend for a 15 second rush, if 15 seconds of 405cfm's at 5.5psi is truly a rush...

It isn't My days off from work haven't been weather friendly.

Currently it's resting under an 8" canopy of snow.

Looks like I need to shoot the bug body with some paint, and move it out of the garage long enough to get the Porsche back together.

Ah, so many nifty cars ya got...The snow really sucks.

I may have a problem with my Conquest. Someone did a shoddy repair job and there is bondo cracking underneath the gas cap cover on the 1/4 panel...and its been sitting exposed like that thru the winter (not driving it, its just outside) and I'm afraid to take off the bondo and see what rust may be there...IT wasnt there before....

That sucks.... I *think* you can see up there, to some extent, to feel around for what damage may be inside there... Could be just a shoddy fill from a nasty door ding(optimistic thinking).

I still have some quarter panel repair left on the passenger side of my Quest. I rebuilt the driver's side last summer, due to them rusting from the inside out.... That was a fun repair

You'll have to search for the thread on it, it's in the Lounge over at Tristarion. Took me about 3-4 days, and that was with rebuilding some of the inner uni-body structure. Sad to think that big repair took 3 days, but the 944 is taking me forever

I saw that awhile back on a VW board. I posted a question about it but not the link. My idea was to have a secondary battery that would run the "E.S.C" as a method to overcome turbo lag. Then when boost from the turbo was sufficient, SC would cut off and the secondary battery would charge. Tuning nightmare I'm sure, even IF the product actually works as suggested.

Actually, I bet it would work good for a smallish 4 banger. I just don't quite like the price vs. the time limit of the gain. It claims to be a higher CFM than the TD04 12a we have on the S/Q, and I bet it spools up darned near instantly, so you've got 5.5psi of boost the instant you floor the gas pedal. It could very well be good slap in the face at the dragstrip, but impractical for anything else. I'd hate to be passing a line of cars, and have that thing run out of power......

As to rust. Depends on how much salt it's seen. They are known to rust out in the snow belt parts of the country. If you look up my thread at Tristarion, I point to where I believe the rust problem begins. And if you don't see any rust popping through the paint, you could still save it. Just fill the gap, gut the interior, and fill the inside of the lower quarters with some POR15 or similar. That should kill the problem before you need a repair like I did.

Hmm...If I pull out the trunk pieces I can get to the 1/4 panel and I'll just pour POR-15 in the 1/4 panel and outside the 1/4 panel, prime, paint, etc and be done

Look at the specs. It needs 4 batteries just to run. Where are you going to put 4 batteries and is the extra 70 lbs or more worth it?

Well according to them you save weight since the weight of the kit plus batteries is only ~30 lbs heavier than an average turbo kit. 15 seconds and then having to recharge 4 batteries would kinda suck. Better get a perfect run at the strip everytime!
