I was reading threw some old sports car books and came across this a book that actually compairs our cars to the 911. The book is called the money-wise guide to sports cars circa 1982 and it says, The 944 series: although the 944, new for 1982, is basicly a 924, you can forget all the bad things you read about the Audi-powered car. The big difference is the 944's genuine Porsche engine, essentially half of the 928's V-8. And what a difference; the car now has the power and the effortless aplomb one expects from a porsche. Moreover, despite a healthy does of performance (0 to 60 in about 8 seconds), the 944 manages fuel economy in the low twenties. There are other refinements over the 924 too, including better drivetrain damping, fender flairs, a new elastic urethane nose amd the special wheels. The 944's handling is more than a match for the 911. While the rear-engine 911 can be a handful at the limit, the front-engine/rear-drive 944 has neutral handling that inspires confidence.

Comes to me as no surprise. And that's not all, the article failed to mention comfort. It is a roomier sports car with perfect front/rear ballance. The only thing this car lacks is snob appeal. For that you still have to buy a 911 ![Stick Out Tongue](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif)

Yeah, it is more than agrivating wehn you mention 944 and they go "oh, that one." I ran into a friend today and said "Hey Kiel, I think I might have found a car"... "Porsche?".. "yeah".... "which one?"..."an 87 944 Turbo." The smile on his face went to a grimace and he said "ehh"... I had a small talk with him about how the 951's were not only better balanced than the 911's, but also quicker. He didn't believe me on the power part, hahaha. Another friend of mine won't accept the fact that the 944's are Porsche's as well, 7th. It really gets me pissed off too... makes me consider never talking to anyone about it and just replying "yeah? want to take your car to the track and see which is better??" to anyone who does anything but praise these cars.
The Porsche-ignorant are quite the hastle these days!

True, true
but on the other hand
I was driving down the road the other day. Passed a kid about 17, he was walking towards oncoming traffic.
He saw me stopped and stared, I passed and he turned around and watched me drive by.
He had this look on his face like what the hell was that.
That was no Mistubitchi.

I ask them if they consider the 356 to be a Porsche. I mean it does have a very close relationship with VW.... Oh but it's air cooled so that's O.K. The guys who feel compelled to make the '944 is not a real Porsche' argument are trying to compensate for a lack of good equipment elsewhere.....

The funny thing about my arguement the dude was driving an Accura, thats a toyota right, what the f@ck.
A VW is still better in my opion.
Go suck a rice stick and leave me alone.
I'm sure my S will handle better than that "Toy" at 140.

Yeah... it's kind of funny how people think they can disrespect the Porsche you have with their misinformation, when you look at the econobox, or junker they are driving... how does THAT add up??

Honda, toyota, same thing.
But they sure can tell I'm driving a Porsche.
and then tell me I'm a wanna be because my car did not cost 80 grand.
Thats not the point. I drive a 944 (actually I have 2) because I love the car not the name.
So eat me and leave me alone.
