Default Big Day- Rolled 200k miles-1988 944 Turbo!

Last night I had a last minute change of plans and needed to make a very quick 600 mile roundtrip drive today. The safe bet would have been my all-wheel drive, Blizzak equipped winter car ( 2017 VW Golf Alltrak) but I had just replaced the timing belt on my 1988 944 Turbo last week and wanted to put a quick 1,000 miles on it so I could re-tension it... I am primarily an air-cooled 911 guy BUT the 944 is a SO much more comfortable road trip car, for some reason I can sit 12+ hours in these cars and feel great. So freezing fog and some slick roads be damned... at just past 7am this morning she clicked over 200k miles and to celebrate after taking a quick photo I ran her to redline in "several" of her gears (actual gear redacted for license preservation purposes..) just to feel that incredible surge and to prove that at 200k miles it is still running strong. I know I am preaching to the choir, but these are amazing cars!

The amazing part is how reliable it has been. The motor and transmission have never been touched and it is 100% stock. The only major items over its lifetime:

-ECU @198k miles
-Clutch @ 110k miles
-6 timing belts!
-2 waterpumps (preventative)
-Turbo Waterpump
-LOTS of tires

Everything else has just been regular maintenance.

This impresses me so much more than seeing all those sub 50,000 mile garage queens that have popped up recently. Great job

Solid!! I'm only at 160k but looking forward to the big milestone myself. BTW I love that picture in the snow; there is something special about driving these cars in the brisk cold that frankly beats the hot summer heat in the greenhouse any time

Looks great! Porsches always seem at home in the snow. Nautic Blue? Looks the same color as my 87 951 (only 125k miles on mine, but hopefully that’ll change over the next few years).

What's amazing is that the odometer gears are still working! Your story restores my faith in these German carport c*nts.

HAHA awesome! Great to see another WA guy on here. Looks like you went over the pass? I know that turbo is loving these cold temps!

Our 944na is @ 194K still running strong.

Currently refreshing my 205k mile 944 Turbo - like you it has never had a rebuild and I will be fitting the second water pump in my ownership.

We should start our own 200k mile club

My 1986 NA is about to turn over 170,000. I have only owned it for about 1-1/2 years. It’s nice to hear how durable these cars are. Also, I’m another Washington owner.

I still can't get over how clean that dash is after all those miles! Seriously... is that mostly driving at night? Is daily detailing a routine like brushing teeth? Incredible man!
