On older cars, I often find myself employing "percussive maintenance" -- also known as the act of beating the cr*p out of something until it starts working again...
I used to do that to my old F-100, I swear the clutch wouldn't slip if I kiscked it couple times before I got in. And with my honda civic, when it wouldn't run right, hitting the ECU a couple of times straightened everything out.

On the '79 Rabbit, If it wouldn't start,
"you have to open the gas tank and rock it back and forth" VW Service Station.

I don't think I'm going to go to these drastic measures with the Porsche though.

Yes, and that last point applies to the noise category of Annoying Sounds Emitted Because The Car is 17 Years Old. i.e. the hatch on my 944 NA was a clunky SOB, no real problem, just oddly behaving hatch pins, solved by turning up the music. I never could get them "right" enough to permanently stay quiet, so I sold it...wait a minute...

Anyhow, $20 is a case of Yuengling, enjoy and I'll store your solution for future use.
