Let's see,
$163K and change on the house
$27K on a home equity line/Visa (mostly home improvements, it's a "fixer-upper" that's well underway, prime minus 1% and the interest is deductible, still have enough available balance left for a new 996)
~$3K on other cards
<$4K on the boat loan, also tax deductible
$350 (2x $175) on her minivan
~ $200,000 I guess,

Oh Dave - I've got you beat!
160K: the house-mortgage (exactly 160, as of May 2004!)
14K: remaining on the BMW
27K: my educational loans (was it worth it... tough call)
15K: my wife's educational loans
~2K: outstanding on the porsche, ongoing expenses
=218K in debt!
... but that's it! We're actually sort of proud of those numbers. Over the past few years we've paid off >25K of our debt. While that doesn't seem like too much, it's really pinching pennies in our world.
Hey, maybe we'll have everything paid off before we die!?!

I'm like a lot of you guys, I try to owe little or nothing.
I have a mortgage (small) and a car payment for my wifes Vue
even though I could have paid cash, at 0 % financing...
I will leave my $$ in the bank.
If you have to charge $$ to get out of an emergency thats one thing.
But running up debt for toys will just get you in trouble.
I'm also a firm believer in Tithing and living below your means.

Mortgage and the Nissan (always like to have the wife in a car that is new and under warranty), everything else is paid for.
Credit Cards... one that has zero balance and the corporate card for business-only expenses...
Everything else has to wait until I get the cash. I cut the credit cards and offers as they come in the mail...
I did have to use a cc when I had Porsche go over the 964 (resealing, change head studs, clutch, two tires, brake pads, etc.... US$6K uffff... glad to have paid that all off two months ago...)
But I have to be honest with the folks here... I have this itch in my hand that is wanting to go out and buy another car... something like a used Lotus Esprit... a Boxster S... I don't know... something nice...
And yes, I have always said here that I wanted a car that could accomodate my kids... more and more I am thinking, ahhh the heck with it...we have the other cars, let's get a two seater...

I owe more than I'd like, but less than I'm comfortable with. Learned a long time ago to use credit to increase your worth, not pay for lunch. Having said that, I seldom carry cash, but I never leave home without the AMEX. I use it for everything and then pay it off at the end of the month. I've got two, one blue and one gold - but I usually use the Blue because I get cash back at the end of the year. This year I got $176 back on over $12k in purchases. Kinda like free money.

Seldom carry a credit card balance, but I use my AmEx card quite often. I like the purchase protection. My monthly bill is usually around $1000 and always paid off. I see no reason to pay cash if I don't have to. I owe about $12k on the Audi (which I bought new), which is why I'm looking for the 944. I'd like to pay cash for a car and have the cash balace to spend while at grad school. School is going to be paid for entirely by loans, so if I don't get any grants/scholarships, I'm looking at borrowing between $120k and $130k over two years. Not really that bad when you consider that the break even point for those loans is aboue 3-3.5 years after graduation.

I owe $$ for our house, and the two daily drivers that we have (New Civic and a Nissan Pathfinder). Other than that, I don’t make payments on things.
The 944 is just a toy, things only get done on it with extra money (bonus, taxes) or if I sell something that I don’t need anymore (car parts, etc……I even sold one of my bicycles to get a new transmission last year). That’s why the progress on it is somewhat slow. My thought is that if I don’t have the cash for some new whizzbang part for it, then I don’t need it.

$232k owed on the house (just bought it in Sept. 2003). Other than that, nothing (pay off my CC every month). I rarely pay cash for anything mainly b/c I get 1% back on my card plus then I have a nice listing of everything I've spent money on. Helps me figure out where I could save some money. I don't spend money unless I know I have it (or can get it before my bill is due) which is how I've stayed out of CC debt even with a $12k limit. It's called self-control (something that apparently the average American does not have).

I'm with you Joe... Hardly carry cash, use credit cards for everything and track it. I've got a budget that I stick to and never carry balances over or pay finance charges. It's all about the self-control but it is NOT easy!

I owe $$$$$$ to the mortgage company. I charge everything I buy on my credit card but pay it off every month. CC payment yesterday was 13K which is a little abnormal but it averages 6K and has been as high as 40K. I charged the 968 when I bought it.
Just doing my part to help the economy.
