The cruise control on my '86 944 works when it feels like working. It works perfectly normal when it does. I try to actuate the lever everytime I am driving on the highway, sometimes the cruise control comes on and most times it doesn't. On a couple of trips on the same day, it has worked on one leg of the trip and not the other.
I have not heard of anyone else having this problem. I am confused.
Any suggestions

If it's an intermittent problem, I'd suspect the cruise control brain. Go to Clark's garage and there's some more info (and elsewhere on the web, like Rennlist search) -- but the basic problem is that the soldering connections get weak over years , but you can resolder the board -- or replace it altogether. The other possibility is the CC servo.

I have the same problem. It works sometimes. Recently I tried using it on a long drive and it took a while, then started working, and then stopped, all in a matter of maybe 6 minutes. It was a serious pain in the butt. I'm going to check out that thing on clarks garage and see if mine is fixable.
