Default 1984 944 headlight issues

Hi, I am new to 944 ownership. Just bought a 1984 944. The headlights will open/ close and work only when the ignition is in the 2nd position ( Not running). As soon as you start the car, the lights turn off and they will not open or close ( will stay up but bulbs turn off). I am thinking the owner before me, messed with the wires/ switch and may have swapped some them on the headlight switch pins? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

You're going to need a wiring diagram, a voltmeter and a lot of patience to diagnose this type of problem

Good luck!

Go to http://www.clarks-garage.com/ - Electrical section, and select "Motor Circuit Operation and Repair"
There's diagram of the wiring, it should help a lot.

The wipers, blower, rear defogger, and headlights share the "X" buss circuit. See if those things are affected also the same way the lights are. If they are, the ignition switch is likely the problem. The ignition switch powers the "X" buss circuit.

OK, Thanks! Think it's a bad ignition switch. Again, when in 2nd position lights come on, open close & Wipers work. When you start the car , the wipers stop working, as well as the headlights. Now, if you pull the "Brights" lever -the lights will flip up and come on, and the wipers will work. But if you release the "Brights" lever, all will stop. I'm gonna buy a new ignition switch and hopefully thats all it is.
