Default 944S2 Airbox location

I'm looking for a more stock-looking air filter set-up for my 968 engine swap to make it easier to get past California smog when I go home (I hate snow!). The current cone-filter set-up is just a big red flag -- and I'm not a big fan of it anyways. The original airbox had to go to make room for the larger engine and the 968 box won't fit because of the front panel.

So I'm thinking... what about an S2 box? Same engine size, similar front end... Donde esta? Anyone with pics?

You could do something like this. With the header panel on, no one would ever know.

Bryan's page is exactly what I was looking for -- looks like he went through the same problems I'm struggling with. I even had the same scored cylinder bore!

Pete, I like your idea, too. I may go this route. Thanks.

To install the factory airbox, you need to slightly widen the hole where the air duct goes. A Dremel works fine. I touched it up with touch-up paint after I did the cutting, and you'd really be hard pressed to tell I did anything. The duct and airbox are so close to fitting without cutting that you may be tempted to futz around with the mounting brackets and stuff, but don't bother. It won't fit right without shaving a little metal away. I didn't really put that clear of a picture up on my site. I should change that - I have some better pics of the widened area.

That cone setup looks pretty decent though.
