Default Rough Start

I have been having a problem with my 86' 944 NA for about a week now. When I start it up, it runs really rough for the first few minutes. Sometimes for as long as 20 minutes. The car shakes and it almost feels like 3 cylinders. It idles OK as far as RPM's go, but no acceleration whatsoever. Whenever it's done running rough, it suddenly pops out of it and runs perfectly.

I've gotten advise on checking everything from the DME to Temp switches, but nothing very easy to check. Any ideas????

Not until you start checking the suggested items and report back with your findings.

OK... The problem has finally gotten worse. Yesterday it really ran rough at start up. I had to wait a few minutes before I could get going. Afterwards, she took off just fine and did a great 80 mph average for 2 hours (75 mph zone BTW)

The next morning she wont start at all. I am going to check for spark and then head to the parts store for an engine coolant temp sensor and an O2 sensor.

Can anybody give me any more suggestions on what to do or what to pick up? DME was suggested earlier, but that sounds expensive to start out with.

Also added to the list:

DME sensor
Idle control valve
Intake vacuum lines
Throttle position switch

I think I can eliminate vacuum lines since it won't start at all, but what about the others?

OK Tim, I had the exact same problem and just fixed it. You are going to have to take apart your AFM and do the cleaning/ bending the arm thing. Don't spend a thousand before you do this. PM me or do a search on AFM.
