oil choice for 944 S2 racecar transaxle
So, swepco 201 was in the car, but that is not readily available here in NZ. I am now using Penrite semi-syth transgear 75W-90 with the correct properties and ratings, but am finding increased wear on the ring and pinion. Castrol products? Mineral only? Also my torsen diff seems to be sensitive to friction modifiers and wont work with lsd additive oils.

Do you guys have Mobil / Exxon products down there ?
I use the Mobil 75W90 synthetic in both my G50 911 and my 944 race car with LSD , at least ten years with
the 911 and five with the 944 without issues .

Years ago I used Mobil 1 in a 944S that had a Quaife TBD, without any problem that I was aware of. With clutch-type LSDs I used to use Mobil 1, and in recent years a lot of Amsoil. Had problems with Redline being too slippery for the synchros to grab.

Do you remember which Redline product you were using?
I just filled my '89 turbo transmission w/LSD using their MT-90.
I've only driven a few hundred street miles but haven't noticed any issues.
Probably need to be on a track to notice but could you describe what to watch / feel for? Thanks.

Oil
if you use Redline Gearlube with a limited slip, make sure you use the 75/90NS....which is a Non-Slip Oil, specifically made for limited slip transaxle’s. We raced Firehawk Series in the early 90’s winning the Championship with 944S2’s and never had a gearbox failure.... we ran 12 hr races at Sebring along with 6 hr and 3 hr races through the year !!!

Which Firehawk team were you associated with - Hawkins, KMR, Sandridge, other?

Jim,
I joined the Amsoil prefered customer program before the season when i switched to their 15w50 Dominator racing oil , you get a pretty good discount and free shipping to your door.
Might give their gear oil a try when my Mobil runs out, seems it has good feedback !

I was the mechanic on the car once at the track and then during the race i would jack the car up and help with tires and brakes when needed for Hawk Motorsports.....
