while we are here... im having a cage from 944cage.com put in (hanksville hotrod)
but, due to classing, I have to keep my interior intact other than minor dash cutting.
I was hoping to find pics here of cages working around the dash, or with minor adjustment.

The problem I have with it is FIA states something like "only one bend" on the a pillar and I noticed Hanksville has "s bends" around the dash. Is it really a problem? I don't know. Thoughts?

I'm not sure where you are looking... Their site has no pictures of vehicles with the dash in place, and there is no S around the dash...?
Interesting, on another page I do see some with s bends I'm guessing those are custom ordered, as their kit doesn't have the S.
Edit : reading that page, it indicated those were custom orders by people not wanting to cut the dash.
GPA951s and others who ran your front bars through the dash - how did you get the bars between the a-pillar and the pocket for the hood hinge? Did you move the hinge and the pocket inboard?
I was at the cage builder's today and rejected their first attempt. They made a halo bar at the roof and then were going to run the forward bars up to it. The thing I didn't like is that puts the front bar below the header above the windshield, and the bars at the top of the doors are about an inch lower than they could be. So I want him to make one bar from the rear hoop to the front of the door, and then add the bar at the top of the windshield. That puts the side bars higher, and puts the front bar further forward and away from your head. I broke my visor on the front bar in the 944spec car, it's a bolt in cage and I hate it.

This caught my attention since I've been thinking about maybe hiring someone to reproduce a bolt in Matter cage for my Firehawk tribute. Aside from bashing your visor on the bolt in cage, was there anything else? Was it a Matter?
No, I think it's an Autopower cage. There's a piece of padding where the label is. It's made to fit a car with the interior intact. The front bar is below the front header, about an inch below.
I like the looks of the Matter cage, I think it's a good choice. I'd consider welding it in rather than bolting it, and depending on who you're going to run with you might have to add a second door bar.

Thanks, I've never seen a Matter cage so I'm interested in hearing about any possible problems. I know no one has problems building welded cages for these cars but that doesn't help me deciding if it might be a bad idea to have a replica Matter cage built, so I'm always searching for experiences with that design.

You should contact Wiechers if you need an aluminum bolt in cage like the Matter. It won’t be exactly the same though as it will be built to today’s regulations rather than last centuries.
If i can give you some advice regarding caging your car , i would suggest you have your seat installed and sit in it with your helmet on and assume driving position before taking measurements ...
Once everything is welded in place it's too late !
You want adequate head room as well as room for your knees , whereas it's better to have the transverse bar mounted above the steering column. The previous owner was a lot shorter than me and i had to mount the seat brackets
to the floor as i had minimal helmet clearance with the sliders.I also found that the top windshield bar was a few inches too low, you want enough space where you can easily jump out of your car through the window opening in case of an emergency.
I also ended up making a new dash as the original installation was a real abortion ...
