Show me the front of your rollcage
I need to redo the cage on the Firehawk car.
How many of you ran your cage through the dash, vs in front of the dash. If you run it in front I'm guessing you'll never take the dash out without cutting it in half, right?

Not technically "through" the dash but sides of dash cut off and the connected to cage.
If you cut the dash just in the right spot, you will reveal a sheet metal end, so I just make a sheet piece that mimics the dash part, bolt that to my dash end then connect to the cage with a short piece of box tubing.

That's the PCA mandated data aq. port riveted to the box tube.
I don't think it's really riveted that crooked in real life, or else I wouldn't have posted the pic.

Kurt, Wilson is running the bar as shown. The goal was to save the oem HVAC ventilation system because I will be driving the car in endurance events in all sorts of weather.
The secondary goal was to be able to remove the dash for servicing.
I succeeded with the first goal but failed with the second. It wont be removable without cutting.
My thoughts are: for a true single purpose race car, go inside the dash/forward of the instrument cluster.

The firm that was going to install a welded-in cage for me started by removing the dash but that's where they stopped. They then went out of business.
Got my car back (luckily) and decided to go with a bolt-in cage instead so I could do it. Had to make my own dash. Still, I would conclude that there is still plenty of room for the original dash had it been left in.

They have the male to this plug rigged on their GPS data device and wanted every racer to have universal hook up.

Noah, your car has what we call a "knee breaker" bar, and that's part of my indecision as to what to do. This car originally had a bar like that, but it was moved to above the steering column later in its life. I want to run a dash bar but I want it away from my knees, but I still want the defroster to work in the car because we sometimes run on cool mornings and the windshield will fog up. My 944 spec car has a bolt in cage like Curtis', and the bar at the top of the windshield is too close to my helmet, it should be further forward. That might be the next project.

I have one of these Autopower bolt in cages, installed, drilled, letter indexed for reassembly, removed, sanded, acid primed and finished in Alpine white.
Never reinstalled, $500 + shipping.
Kurt, I kinda watched Noah's cage build over at pelican but can't remember a whole lot about it, but my knee bar is just under the steering column.
That bar has a plate that actually reinforces the column rest with a u-bolt around the shaft tube.

Other than that I'd like to keep it looking as stock as possible.
I really like GPA's dash bar, but I'm guessing the car doesn't have the heater box anymore. I really only need the defroster to work, so maybe I can modify the box to make it fit around that bar.

Noah, This was originally a Firehawk car. Showroom stock, you could add swaybars and delete the cat and muffler, that's it. Originally the car had a full interior, for safety's sake I'm not going to reinstall the carpet or headliner.
