Default '84 Lock Carrier - Thread Repair

Looking for some suggestions:

I'm starting to tear down the '84 944 and cleanup the mess I'm finding up front. Some things I consider minor - bent mounts / plates, zip ties running everywhere, missing fasteners. But of a larger concern - rust. Light rust is simple to deal with. But I've come across a few spots where water managed to collect and cause heavier issues. In particular (so far) - the lock carrier (hood latch support / cross member.) The front air box mounting plate attaches to the carrier with 3 nuts / studs. All 3 show significant signs of rust damage where the threads were exposed about the nuts. It appears that the studs are captive and could be pressed or cut out. I'm wondering if anyone has needed to replace / repair these studs and what they ended up doing.

Thanks!

James

One of mine broke off when trying to remove the airbox. While it was out I ground down the broken stud even with the sheet metal and drilled a new hole. When I put the airbox back in I just used a regular bolt and nut and it works fine. I just have to remember it's not a stationary stud when the airbox comes out. If you have a welder I'm sure you can weld it in and no one would know any different.
