Regarding the Blow Off Valve test.

In order to prove that your Blow off Valve is OK, do You suck into it and try

to feel the resitance?

Or do you blow into it, and try to feel resistance?

lol Rich, I was searching the archives and that's why I was confused. For everyone guy that said you have to suck, there was another guy that said you have to blow.

Which opening are you talking about? I discovered mine was bad by sucking on the nipple where the vacuum line attaches to it. It's supposed to hold vacuum there.

By the nipple, where the vacuum line goes into on the top of the BOV (the vac. line that comes from the "Y" connector.)

if you can suck air thru the nipple, it's time for a new BOV.

I've got the 993 one installed.


The guys that are talking about blowing into it, mean you blow into one of the Big holes, while plugging the other big hole with your finger. If air escapes thru the nipple, it's also broken.

If it holds vacuum there, it's probably OK. If you can suck air (which doesn't taste good), it's toast.

As a matter of fact, I got sick from sucking and blowing my BOV and various

vacuum lines. No joke, hell I still am..

OK guys, I just removed the BOV from my car, and sucked air through the nipple, there was NO resistance. I also blew into one big hole, and covered the other big hole, and air went through the litttle nipple..

So is my BOV ok??

If not, got one I can buy off you?

just buy one from your local dealer. ask for the 993TT BOV valve. It's better because it has a copper diaphragm inside as opposed to the plastic 951 diaphragm.

Any idea how much they go for?

I'm about to paint my car ($1200)
And buy a wastegate ($300)
And get some Vac. Lines ($30)
Oh and I'm only 16!!

You can get rebuildable, read never replace again, billet valves for less than 150 dollars. You can also buy stock ones every so often for about 30-50 dollars each. Even the 993 valves fail. It depends heavily on how much power you are trying to make as well. For stock applications the 993TT or Saab BOV will work fine. For anything else, I just dont see 150 bucks being a lot of money.
