Peckster, I don't have the reference handy but from years of reading the E-Mail lists, this was a widely accepted trick. I could be mistaken, but I think I recall Testors even having the same "Guards Red" name for it.

For the SEM, they only have a few blacks for trim. IIRC, there is only flat and matte black. Either way, you'll be able to tell which you want. Be sure to do a good surface prep and I bet it'll look great.

When I had mine repainted, they painted that part red. Like others suggested, I lightly sanded the area to be painted, masked everything off and used some primer and semigloss spraypaint. Looks beautiful, and has held up quite nicely over the past year and a half.

I just turned around in my seat and can verify that it is, in fact Guards red. I only bought the acrylic jar, but am POSITIVE they have an enamal spray
