I have a problem with my 944 headlamps (registered May '85, pre-update model, fuseboxes in the passenger foot-well). I think I may have a faulty headlamp switch, or perhaps relay, although there appears to be no specific headlamp relay. One headlamp failed to turn on ( n/s, no power getting to it), the other headlamp and all other lights did work. So I removed and cleaned the contacts on the headlamp switch (located to the right of the steering column), now both headlamps are not working!

I wondered if anyone has had a similar experience and the best way to get to the cause of the problem.

I don't have an answer specifically to your situation, but I know that a good place to start is with the headlight grounds. They'll be a bunch of smaller brown wires all on one bolt behind the front left headlight. Clean up the contacts and bolt mating surface. It may not solve your problem, but you'll have eliminated one likely culprit.
