Stock 1987 944 S diff.
Where to buy & do you also need to replace the shims when you want to bring your LSD back to new?

What shims...?

Do you mean the steel plates with external spline...?

Those come in 3 varying thicknesses, 1.9, 2.0 and 2.1 mm from memory.

There is really no way to know exactly what you need until you disassemble the unit and make a few measurements.

1) the stack of existing parts, thrust ring, clutch disc (internally spline) and steel disc (externally splined)
2) the very accurate measurement of the diff housing depth.

You subtract stack from depth measurement with a target clearance of XXX (spec is in manual) and adjust with one of the alternate thickness steels.

Is that the right disc for a non M758 diff...?

Because if you think you can just upgrade the clutch to the thicker TurboS/S2 disc with use of a stock 944S pressure ring (thrust ring), you cannot.

Well, technically, you can, I have done it but you have to have the thrust ring surface ground around .5mm to set your clearance or put you back into range to be able to set to spec with use of the three available steels.

I don't see how you could order parts until you tear it down and see what parts will be required.

Good idea to change the cup springs too and soak your clutches before assembly.
