Unhappy Started today, but stalls @ 1200rpm

So the 944 has been sitting dormant for a good couple months now because I just haven't had time to mess with it. Originally it had just up and died overnight. It would turn over and felt like it was almost/barely lighting off. As soon as you let go of the starter it'd died. Well today I got it to idle (swapped in a battery that I have laying in the garage), but as you feed it gas it dies @ 1200 rpm, wether bringing up gently or quickly. I tried the search but didn't find a similar problem. I've already tried the fuel pump relay (no effect). But after this afternoon I'm thinking it may be either the fuel regulator or pump. After mentioning to my mechanic that it wasn't starting, the first thing he asked was how many miles. Told him 200k+. Said it was probably the pump. So I think my next step is to try to track down a fuel pressure gauge and see what the rail pressure is. Does anyone know off hand what the thread is for the fuel rail cap? What pressure should I be looking for in an '84 na? I'm sure I'll need an adaptor for the gauge. Any other insight would be very helpful.

One quick thing to check is the TPS switch. If you unplug the small electrical plug from your throttle body ( I think this is where it is) you can try revving it again and see if it can get past the 2000 RPM. Your idle will be a little unstable, but atleast you will be able to get her going again.

Ck the rotor button. Pull the dist cap, Hold the coil wire up to the rotor and get someone to spin the engine. MAKE SURE you are insulated not to get a jolt.Or is that volt, what ever. If the spark jumps to the rotor'' the rotor is bad. You see the rotor should not be grounded therefore the spark should go around the rotor not to it. If not there don't rule out ignition maybe braking down somewhere.Goodluck

I had this problem once on my n/a 944. It's like it gets stuck on idle and once the DME thinks the idle is getting too high it cuts the fuel. If you disconnect the switch, it will think the car is never at idle even when the throttle plate is closed. It's a temporary solution to make the car driveable, but it would still need to be replaced.

That is ofcourse if this is the problem.... it's a small square plug that plugs into the throttlebody area. Maybe someone else can better explain where it is.

Try your air flow meter connector.
