Default 944 Turbo

I'm thinking about purchasing a 1986 944 Turbo. I heard that its possible to get a K27 Turbo upgrade and a performance chip and some other various parts to get these cars to about 300hp or more. What steps and how much do you figure this to cost.

thanks

Chris

Chris, there's tons of information regarding your question. You need to use the search function in the archives. Also repost this question in the 951 Turbo forum where mostly the turbo experts hang.

Hi Chris,

Definitely do the search...there is more than you can imagine on the topic of getting more power from a 951. Actually, if you are talking about 300hp at the flywheel (not the rear wheels which is about 15% lower than at the flywheel), then 300bhp is fairly easy to get in a 951, even without changing the turbo out. A MAF or MAP kit with good chips, a test pipe and a 3" cat back, a good wastegate and boost controller should get you there. Several people have posted 260+ RWHP with those mods and add the 15% loss in, which would equate to roughly 300 hp at the flywheel, or about 80 more than stock, which is like 45% more power than it came with from the factory! Good tuning of the MAP/MAF kit and you could do even a little better than that. My car was dynoed with 101k miles on it and put down 201RWHP completely stock, so with my mods now and running 15psi, if I have picked up 40RWHP or so already, I'm pushing 280 or so in my car now.

Search on dyno results, look at the various kits the tuners offer if you want to get the closest to plug and play that you can, and read, read, read. Ask questions when you don't know or can't find the answer. And above all, be careful.....boost is VERY addictive

Good luck in your search!
