Hello folks long time no see.

I have a few questions...

I have recently found a 944 at a local body shop that seems to be the victim of a fuel line leak. Unfortunately the entire car was torched from the front to back. I am trying to get the engine block and head from this car to be the base for a possible turbo motor to convert my N/A.

To give an idea of how hot the car actually got, the manifold is a large melted heap located on the fenderweld. The entire front of the motor except for half of the waterpump is non existant. the valve cover was partially melted.

Do you think this block and head is salvageable? A friend of mine which happens to be a very good mechanic says that the block should be fine and if the head is warped it can be milled.

With all of that said, this same mechanic friend of mine has a Garrett turbo laying in his house collecting dust and he wants to put it on the current motor in my car. Will a Garrett fit on a 944?

I am not looking to make this a 400hp motor. I would like to get 220-250hp range (if the block and head in the burnt car is worth a crap) out of what i think is an N/A motor. The burnt car is a pre 87 model i believe. I cant tell the thing had phone dials that were melted also. It looks like the deeper offset from the earlier models.

I just want a lttle more than a stock 951 on a budget (if this is even feasible).

I wouldn't trust the motor because I have bought several burnt 951s and had problems with less severe fire damage. Mine never had any hard parts of the engine melt but did have problems with the balance shafts not able to rotate. The balance shaft cover is machined specifically to the block and when warped, it will cost you more to correct then to buy another block. If you can get the car for less than $500, then buy it because the transmission and some parts of the engine is probably still good along with the rear suspension and possibly the rear calipers.

I didnt think about the balance shafts.

Well the car is pretty much toast and all i have to do is pay the towing bill which is less than a c-note.
