Please provide us with a write-up on the handling performance of the Z-06.

FWIW, a friend of mine has driven a Z06 at The Glen. This guy's a seasoned DE instructor, having owned and driven everything from a 914, 951, 964, Boxster and 911 Cup car on the track.

Frankly, he was very unimpressed with the Z06, especially after going through the brake pads after half a day! While he liked the acceleration of the car down the straights, it wasn't the most nimble in the corners.

Of course, I am seeking to verify this guy's opinions: perhaps Marc should lend me that Z06 for the weekend....

It's too damn cold to get the tires to hook up anyways!

Well, only put about 50 miles on it and it is quite a bit of fun, very nimble for a car that's just to big.

Needless to say it's very fast, the suspension is stiff! I mean stiff!
I may need a new set of kidneys after a few days with this car.
Maybe I'm just getting old but I'm not sure I would want to deal with that everyday.

And how do I get these cars you ask? I have a friend involved the car biz, not the dealer end.

Why should he? when i say something good about the Z28s handling (or anything good about a GM (edit: make that any non german)product) It is considered 944 bashing.

Thanks, and I will take you up on the offer. I like to pick my cars out a few years before i buy them. I figure a GTO should be in the high teens in three years, low teens in four years.

I would probably prefer driving an RX8, but the bigger rear seat and eyes plastered to the back of the skull acceleration are just more practical now that I have a child to haul around.

Does my crystal ball see another meeting at Rutts. This time it will be a meeting of the mullets.

Marc- My boss has a red Z06. One of the best looking cars on the road, but still feels like a GM to me. No complaints about accelleration though...!

 

Busting your nuts andy. If it felt like a ford they would have to sell it for less, if it felt like a honda it would have to sell for more.

my legend coupe was one of the sweetest all around cars. excellent pickup, excellent handling, extremely quiet, nimble, comfortable, etc. It was excellent (not great) at everything. My friends wife had a plain jane accord. when he drove the acura he commented on how it felt like his wifes accord --- only on stearoids.

By the dumpster, in the dumpster, its all the same. (oh you mean the cars, not the food)

 

The Road & Track loved the GTO performance wise- but tended to dislike the ho-hum fleet car exterior. I tend to agree. The story is amazing on how the new "GTO" came about in Austrailia.
I want to drive a 04 'vette and do a comparison to my '70 'vette. It should be interesting. There is a big list of new cars I want to drive. and a lot of them are US manufacturers - but not necessarily US made.

I have friend in PCA who has a Z06 and he loves the thing. He used to have a TT for the track and now has the Z06 and loves it. Enjoy the ride and keep the rubber side down. Best wishes - Jay Gratton

there is no comparison. I can tell you comparing the 93 camaro to the 68 firebird. both have 350s. The progress in engine management makes the 93 so much more powerful, yet i get better mileage, which still isnt all that much.

While the 93s handling may not be considered "world class" it can more than hold its own, even with the solid axle. but what i want to know is how much of the improvements in handling are directly related to tire technology? about 15 years ago R&T did a comparison of a few vettes. The numbers for the 65 were very close to the current vette once radials were installed.

 

Marc....How can I get hooked up with your friend so I can get hooked up with these cars?
