Default Timing belt change questions

I am preparing to gather parts to do a water pump/timing change on my '87 NA and I have a few questions...

I read where it says you need an updated rear timing cover with the new style water pumps. how can I tell if I already have this ? I don't want to be caught without everything I need once its apart.

Which is the best water pump to go with ? I see so many choices out there.

Thanks so much

You don’t need to buy a newer style rear timing cover because you can modify yours to fit if needed. On the water pump the consensus is a rebuilt one from Zims.
