968 - need more torque
I have been contemplating buying a 968, but my 911 and 928 have it beat on torque (I've driven only tiptronic). From what I've read it's impossible to improve torque without significant engine rework, is that correct? I love everything about the car except this one thing ...... and it's a showstopper for me. Any advice would be very highly appreciated

From what I've read, the tiptronic on the 968 really kills the power...
As far as mods go, the general consensus is to save your money unless you do some form of forced induction (supercharge or turbocharge)

Try the 6 speed over the tiptronic.
The only thing that would significantly increase torque would be a supercharger or a turbo. Chips, cat bypass, etc., would be negligable.
Adrial, you must have posted while I was typing.

The 968 Tiptronic is an early design. If I was going to go tip, I would pick a Boxster for around the same price as a 968 Cab.
As far as getting more Torque / HP out of the engine, your not going to get much of a gain out of anything other than forced induction. There will be a chip comparison article in an upcoming edition of Excellence. Powerhaus claims about 20HP out of an exhaust, intake and chip kit for <$1500 or about 200HP out of a turbo for >$25k. Other suppliers are offering turbo or supercharger kits for <$10k delivering about 100HP gain.
