You can do it if you can follow directions. It's just nuts and bolts man, that's really all there is to these cars, or and cars for that matter. Read the tech sessions untill you can picture the proceedure and then go tackle it.

Anyway, another good person for oil cooler seals and headgaskets is Legoland951; he's done it tons of times.
Let me know what's going on. When my car was mixing fluids, it was oil in the water, so we did the oil cooler. I posted the Porsche Mechanics Manual updates on this, you need get a new set of seals, some soft gasket sealant, and make sure that little accordian oil cooler inside doesn't have any breaks in it, so you can reuse it.
But it sounds like a blown headgasket to me, and depending on money and time, that would be an excellent time to have the head and valves reground, before putting back on, along with you can use a soft wire brush on a drill to clean the varnish off the pistons.

Thanks everyone, your encouragement is is really getting me to consider doing this myself. I need some info then. I'm going to look over clarks garage instructions, but are there any tools you guys recomend I buy. How will i retension the T-belt, theres no way I can buy the tensioner, anyone have one I can borrow, or is there somewhere I can rent one? (I'm going to change the belt while I'm at it, it only has 11,000 and 2 years on it, but better safe then sorry. I am going to get a tool set to do this. thnaks everyone.

Also, How do I clean out the engine of the oil and coolent, etc... What kind of stuff do I need to do? I want to make sure I get this right.

You want to drain your oil?
As I just finished doing this 5 minutes ago it's still in my mind.
1) Raise Car, suppourt with jackstands. Do NOT go under car with only the jack as your suppourt
2) Get a pan or something similar to drain the oil and locate your Oil Drain plug. It's under the car, I'll look for a picture and attatch it.
3) Wait 20 minutes+ for the oil to drain
4) Go out and buy about 8 quarts of Mobile 1 10w-30 (WalMart has the 5 quart jug for like $22) And put 5 qaurts of oil in the car. Turn the car on for 20 seconds, then turn it off. Check the dipstick and check your oil level. Add another quart, and keep going until you are at the desired amount of oil according to your dipstick.

I suppose you could clean the crankcase by just doing several oil changes, after running it for a short time. I believe auto. trans. fluid is also a detergent and a quart of that with regular oil might help the process.
With the engine still in the car there isn't much more you can do. Just run some inexpensive oil through it. After a couple of these quick oil changes you should have most of the coolant out.
Depending on how much coolant you have in the crankcase you may want to consider rod bearings.

Yea, mike hit it on the nose i think, If you want to clean it out good, run a quart of ATF in it for about 500 miles or so, then change the oil again. One thing i do to help clear out the old crap, is when i do an oil change, after i drain the oil, add a quart of oil and let it run through the engine and drain out into the pan. It is amazing how much black crap is left in there if you just let it drain by itself. It wastes an extra quart of oil, but really cleans it out good.

One unfortunate byproduct of oil cooler seal leakage and oil in the coolant is contamination of the water pump.
When the oil cooler seals went bad on my 83, I had the whole cooling system taken apart and cleaned out, but the sludge in the coolant ended up killing my water pump after a few weeks, making the bearings whine. Looking at the old water pump after it was replaced, I could see traces of the sludge in it.

Oh, dear...Luis, I never thought of that!!! I do still have some oil in my antifreeze, but only like a tablespoon...grrrrrrr!
Now I don't know if I need to go back, redo the oil cooler seals, or do a headgasket! What to do, what to do...well, not doing anything until I get that clutch finished up!

ive heard if u drain some of your oil and then add kerosene to the oil that is remaining, cut the fuel out, cracnk it a couple times, drain it, and crank ti a couple more times, the kerosene cleans everything out pretty well.... it is supposedly trhe main ingredient in those engine flushes they used to sell. You could also probaly try just going and seeing if they have an engine flush avialble still.
