OPRV - Frustrating Oil Cooler Housing Alignment
86 944 n/a, Just replaced the oil cooler seals and OPRV washer and seal.
Question - Do I need to drain the oil and coolant everytime I try to align or remove the oil cooler and Oil pressure relief valve?
I am having trouble getting the oil cooler housing and Oil Pressure Relief valve aligned perfectly. Have tried it twice now and the OPRV is sticking and I am not getting any oil pressure. I am using the proper alignment tool and just when I think I have it aligned I put everything back together, start the car and no oil pressure.
I have heard that the OPRV has to be aligned just right or there will be no oil pressure.
Oil pressure was fine before I replaced the cooler seals.
Thanks for any suggestions.

There are two alignment drifts, one for pre '87 cars and another one for '87 and later cars, are you sure that you are using the right one? Also, how long are you waiting for the engine to build pressure (I don't think that it will build pressure immediately the first time)? When checking for pressure, you should unplug the DME relay and crank the car until you get pressure. I believe that it shouldn't take much longer than 30 seconds. Hope this helps and welcome to Rennlist.

Prime oilpump!
Screw off oilfilter. Put a hose with suction in one of the holes (not the center one) and such some oil through...
Someone also recomended pouring oil down the hole, but the one time 0 oil pressure happened to me (oil pump dismantled) I had to put suction on it to get oil pressure.
