Default Speedo/Odometer Repair -- Anyone remember a post

Hi everyone,
Hope your weekend is going well.
I am looking for a past post detailing how to redo the VDO speedo/odometer (quite good post, imho).

As luck would have it, I ran across a post outlining the procedure to replace the speedo gear, reset the odometer (add a few miles to the total) and correct for slop in the drive mechanism of the odometer. I bookmarked the page and planned to review it before fixing my speedo head (second time - I had the slop issue I think). Of course, the next ting that happened was the PC died taking the bookmark with it.

I have looked through the various forums for the post but have not found it.

Does anyone remember a post (rather long discussion with multiple pictures) about fixing the VDO speedo had. I think it was in the 944 forum but could have been another as the head was used all over.

Of course, I have the instrument cluster on my workbench and need to review the steps the author took to redo his unit.
Thanks in advance.
Ed

What year is your car? There is a big difference between 83-85/1 cars, and 85/2-91 cars.

I bought mine here. Be sure to get the right gear.

There’s were about three different gears available. Didn’t matter the year. Need to count teeth on the gear your replacing.

How's this for price ($11.49):

Try to count the teeth on the old gear: most 944's are 21 tooth, a few early ones were 22. You have to have the correct one.

I just did mine with a part from Rennbay. My gear was more similar to a gummy bear than an actual gear. Amazing how poorly it aged.

Forgot about this.

Go to the shop manual and look under electrical. Tells you how to pull the cluster and repair the odometer
