Perhaps there is some justice after all . . .
Yesterday I joined (again) the large group reporting accidents here. No, not the Porsche - I was rear-ended while driving my son's Jetta. It was parked in front of the garage, and I was too lazy to move cars around to get to mine (we have 3 extra cars in the driveway this week, it's Rose Parade & Bowl time in Pasadena).
My daughter-in-law and I were on the exit ramp from one freeway to another (the southbound 710 to the southbound 5, for those that know LA), traffic was slowing but not stopped, when all of a sudden someone smashed into the rear of my car - hard. I looked back to see a large maroon sedan pull back onto the freeway and take off. Oh, @#$%, hit and run! And, there are no plates on the car! How will I ever explain this one to my insurance company, we've had three totaled cars, two that went against us in very questionable circumstances, and another hit and run in the last two years. So I find a safe spot to pull over and call the CHP, I really need a good accident report on this one.
That's when thing start to get better! The dispatcher calls me back to confirm my description of the car. They have him pulled over, they send a motorcycle officer to escort us to identify the car and driver ( my DIL got a good look at him). It turns out an off-duty police officer witnessed the crash, called it in, and chased him down. He's driving on a suspended license, and there's a warrant out for his arrest (no wonder he kept going!). So, it's questionable that he has insurance, but at least I've got the police report I needed. And, my DIL and I may have to go to court at witnesses, they arrested him for hit and run as well as taking him in on the warrant.
No, they wouldn't tell us what the warrant was for. They also kept us pretty far back from him, and had us put the visors down on our car when they took him out of the police car for us to look at. I guess now we wait and see what happens. Today I get to take the Jetta to the body shop and see what they say. At first, it just looked like the bumper, but this morning I noticed that the gas cap cover won't open, so at least the one rear fender is pushed out, too. Hope that's all! Wish me luck,
Pat

Sorry about the accident but I'm glad they caught the b*st*rd. You shouldn't have any problems since a police officer witnessed the accident. Hopefully they will nail him good.

I bet he was packin heat.. or smuggling mexican rose petals for the parade- both are very serious crimes in LA.
Glad YOU are ok Pat.
BTW- You GOTTA get a new hobby. This whole "crushing car" thing you have going could be bad for your health when you get older.

Sorry to hear that happened, it's a war out there.
My very first wreck consisted of my avoiding someone running a stop sign, missing him only to lose control and slam into two parked cars! Ouch! Guy took off, but as it turned out a very nice woman saw the accident and chased after the guy. He ended up getting away but her written testimony got me out of serious trouble, all when I was just sixteen! Sometimes it works out nicely. Good luck and keep the shiny side UP!
