Default Hi im new here. Got this 1980 924 2.0 for free...

Hi im from Malaysia. Currently helping a mate getting this 924 2.0 back on the road, which he got for free...

As you can see, lotsa work to be done. Np radiator + tank, no intake hoses and timing cover. Also missing the front sway bar (must be stolen haha). Interior wise, no front seats and steering wheel. The fugly fibre bodykit needs to go... Im also looking for original 14" wheels. (only have one in the spare wheel well).

Hope to hear from you guys, I need all the help I can get.

Shes got a turbo front end

Fugly bodykit

Pulled the engine out

Fuel divider

Cyl head. No.3 exhaust valve busted.

Pistons

No.1 crank journal worn and pitted

Conrod bearings... whats left of them...

Anyone want free coca-cola?...

Cheers,

Syed

It's going to take a LOT of beer. Post pictures as you go, it will be interesting to follow this project. Are there chunks missing from the #2 exhaust valve?

cheers,
c

Windex and a roll of paper towels will get you half way there.

I learned how to wrench when I got my 2nd car ever, which was a '79 924. Good memories. Frustrating at times, but you learn so much DIYing. Good luck!

Well the purchase price should give you some wiggle room for repairs. What are your plans for the engine? Rebuild or replace with a known good unit?

Interesting that it has the unique front grills found only on the 931 turbo. The rest of the chassis appears to be non-turbo. That grill was not an easy swap but looks great. I owned a few of these over the years including an '82 931. Some parts are getting tough to find, especially for the earlier, pre-1980 models. Many pre-1985 944 chassis parts can be retrofitted without too much difficulty. From the looks of the intake manifold, this is an early model. The engine is not hard to work on and the non-turbo is NON interference, so the timing belt is not critical. If the car has been sitting, expect trouble from the fuel pumps and CIS distributor. Good luck with the car. May be able to help with technical questions.
