944 took a hit today
#17
In downtown Houston in 1989, some a-hole knocked the passenger door off my white '79 924. Door completely ripped off, hinges ripped out of the door jamb and everything. They didn't total it and insurance fixed it. That was a bad day. My friend was standing in the door when it was hit but was unharmed.

I'm not a lawyer but this is what I would do. Get a written estimate from your body guy even if you have to pay for it. If the other insurance company estimate won't cover all of the repair, do not cash the check! Cashing their check mean you are accepting their offer and leaves you with no recourse. Instead take the woman that hit you to small claims court. It looks better for you if you already paid out of pocket yourself to repair the car to the Arbitrator.

Waooo Brian, this is a bad news, but a great news that the repair cost are below 75% of the value of the car. If i can be of any help let me know, as i went through a lot of that with my turbo last year.

It has been a nightmare! I decided to get the front repaint (august 2016) , and when they put it back they short the whole electric of the car - not sure how - , so we had to replace all the whole electric Harness, then when i got back the car it was leaking all over the place, so replaced all the hoses/rubber, when i finally got the car back (november 2016) 3 hours after some crazy stupid person did not stop at a stop sign! and so hit me on the front passenger side, then i got the car back (feb. 2017) i took a deer on the driver side... all this happened between August and March.....
The car is now finally back to almost perfect.

I worry about hitting a deer. We are very rural and hitting deer here is common. I had a deer run into the rear quarter panel of my Silverado years ago, and was able to slow nearly to a stop (but still tagged the deer) in my VW beetle only damaging the headlight a few years later. Where I live you have to be alert for deer, but in some instances they run in front of you and there's nothing you can do. Glad your car is getting fixed.

One thing you might check into if they total the car. I had a 931 totaled back in '89 and I bought it back from insurance, but that left me with a salvage title. I don't know if that varies from state to state. I was in California.

That really blows. I'm amazed that there aren't more accidents caused by retards with cell phones. I spent 5 weeks with my son (truck driver) on the road and when stuck in bumper to bumper traffic I could look right down and can see half the people driving are texting on their phones!
And as noted by Marc - when I drive one of our trucks - I am totally amazed at how many people are fiddling with their phones. These ******** are the perfect candidates for autonomous vehicles.
Brian - sorry to see this happen to any of our cars. Unfortunately, the areas that are damaged are not easily accessed from the inside. Cutting and welding may be needed to properly repair this. Nice that the estimate was as low as it was. Hope it all gets repaired to your satisfaction.

You need part #944-503-037-01 (called Upper Panel)..........discontinued from Porsche.........but there has to be NOS somewhere. I had a similar event with my 86 944. Just the lower portion (with the Porsche lettering decal) was dented in. I'm still searching..........

Same exact thing happened to me last week!
I had my 944 for 2 weeks - was sitting in line at the Valet and someone in a Chevy 1500 lifted with a brush guard hit me in the back from lack of paying attention.
exact same dent as yours (under the wing), smashed my key-hole in as well.
Body shop quoted me at $5600 - his insurance came back with $2800 after me fighting with them not to total. Will let you know how it goes.
Best of luck!
