Tony, i have the 944 and a 02 GTI too i hope the R32 handles as well as they say it does i rode in a 337(same as your 20th) and the suspension setup is MUCH better. 944 doesn't have the grunt and the brake feel of the VW but i RWD and great suspension evens them out in terms of fun. S2 gotta be a different story though Although my GTI is in the garage for 6 month now.... can't sell it and can't afford throwing money away for the insurance

I drove an M coupe at one of BMW's driving days at the nassau colliseum right before it was formally introduced. I read the 0-60 was the same as a vette so I stalled two times pulling out of the parking lot for fear of mowing down some spectators.

I pulled in front of the colliseum and asked my buddy passenger to count.

it went like this "1/1000, 2/1000, 3/1000 4/what the f*** are you doing!!!?"

"about 80" i replied. the car was by far the nicest all around car i ever drove. also one of the ugliest. kinda remined me of the XKE turned into a hearse in what was that movie? very docile and easy to drive in traffick but give it gas and whoa. i kept hitting the rev limiter because the motor sounded a lot like my RX7s and i had another 1000 or so rpm in the rx.

i couldnt believe the way that piston motor wound.

Thanks for the info Tony. I read that it was supposed to arrive mid-'03 as an '04 model. Looks like it will be a year late? Hmmm...

Tom, my wife threatened divorce or I would be driving one now. I love the M Coupe, she thinks they are just plain ugly. Why would you want to drive that clown shoe? Sheesh, women.

The M Coupe was my goal, before insurance relegated me to the 951. I'm not complaining, but there's something to be said for short wheelbase and all motor.

Matt,
You're right, "fast" is definitely a relative term, the potential of our 951's puts things into different terms. The $20k, I would have spent on an e36 M3, will have my 951 nipping at the heels of the supercars. Still the back seat (and even the option of 4 doors) makes the e36 M3 a more practical choice.

At 26, practical isn't a necessity. Damn, it's nice!

When my wife and I were looking for our first car I looked at a Techno Violet M3. I told her when we went to test drive it, if we like it we will buy it. Needless to say, I still havent owned an M3 :>)

Due to rod failure on early S54 engines the warranty was extended to 6yr/100K on all engines that's what i call service... 70% of mk4 VW have their windows falling through due to false window regs and it takes a company 3 years to do a recall.... i wondering what maintanance will be like on an Mcoupe against a $10K 951 i gotta stop dreaming anyway.. i know i'm gonna end up with my 92 Miata as my supercar till i start making real money

wow, thanx for all the feedback, TOM R that is a sick deal on that M3
Otherwise i was thinkin if i spend 30k it'll have to derve as a daily driver cause ill be dead broke after that. I reckon ill cap it at 25k and have some left over to put towards my house. The Acura rsx-s is something else i would consider...also maybe a wrx....ive always been a fan of the golf vr6, so the r32 is def a step up and a contender as well. '
Tom- very right about driving limits around here, but maybe ill get me a mullet mobile...great sound. lemme know when yours is on the selling block.

im so tired of red cars, but am seriously thinking about that M3. i went on to cars.com to see what they were asking for an M coupe.

just what i need, a 50k bmw to park at the train station for the thieves!! if it was a 328 at 40% off sticker it would be better for me.

Harold & Maude

What a great and strange movie.

An I have said the same thing about the Coupe. Make mine an M Roadster. Found out I could have bought one for the same price as my 328i. Good think I didn't find that out until after I bought the 328i.
