Buy a 968 with perfect body but high mileage. Put $18K to $25K into restoration/upgrade/blueprinting. Alternatively, buy a Toyota Tundra.

if you want a car that will be reliable, fun to drive, and have some resale value and want new look at the RSX or any acura.

if you want to spend 30k on a used car look at the 3 series, or a 993, or a boxster or even dare I say it , an ugly cheaply made .... but full of grunt and sticky in the turns recent Vette.

i wouldnt spend 30k though. if i were to go "exotic" would look for a nice used 3 series coupe as a reliable daily driver.

other than a porsche or bmw i would go highline japanese over german. but im old and dont need or want a used example of the fastest of any model (yet i drive a 300+ hp mullet to the train). not to mention i probably dont have the abilities to handle even a measly camaro let alone a porsche or m3 on the street at the limit. do you? reality check. getting something you can have fun with at low speed (like a miata or NA on turns, or the mullet where even a gentle right foot is linked to a smie - nothing like the sound of a V8) is more fun than something you have to get up to speed to enjoy (like .....).

I would buy the best 944 S2 coupe in the country, and save the other 10-15K for repairs over the years..

Hmm...or I would probably save $10K and buy a Lotus Elise next year when they arrive state side.

I would toss my chips in for the 3 Series Bid / Evo 8 / RSX / NSX / 968...

Better yet, buy an integra ( Great daily car ) and a DUCATI 999 ;D If you're the more-*****-than-brains sort like some of us...

Cheers and stay safe,
Sach

.02 into the fray.

Not knowing what you need from the car makes it difficult, but . . .

I'd get used, and avoid the usual kick in the nuts from depreciation.
4 doors - BMW 3 or "older" 5, Infiniti G35 (if you can find one)
2 doors - e36 M3 (prices are low, and car is fast)

I've got a BMW heart, and believe they're great for daily service.

One other question to ask: Why blow $30k? The e36 M3 can be had for $20k, which leaves $10k for a rainy day.

On the other hand, Incessant poses an excellent option. I would give a kidney for a new Elise. That will be the greatest car this country has seen to date.

A VW R32 is a pretty good choice. $28k for a Golf with AWD and a 260hp v6. Sport suspension, 18" wheels, big brakes, and an aluminum trimmed interior. Oh yeah, and DEEP leather sport seats. Its actually a pretty coold ride. Also has dual exhaust. Cool looking car.

that would be 240 hp but 236 lbs. ft. of TORQUE!!! yum! it beats Evo and STI as a daily driver car.... my friend in germany bought one, had coupla generic VW issues but so far it's a pure joy every mile he says not as fast as an E36 M3 of course i still suggest you check out an M Coupe can u say Overstteeeeeer

Vlad,
I like your style. ;-)
While we're at it, I'll cast another vote for the M Coupe.

Jon - I love BMWs too but to call it fast might be an overstatement. It is relatively quick but certainly not fast. Making it faster than stock costs a mint and the OBDII cars can be quirky. GREAT all-rounder though, maybe the best all round vehicle in existance. Sure can be made fast in a track environment.

Yes, i stand corrected! My bad! BUT....here is something else in favor of the R32. The car is virtually the same size as a 944. It is only 6 inches higher, and 4 inches SHORTER in length than a 944. Same width i believe. Its a similar drive. Having both the new GTI and a 944, i can say its very enjoyable owning both. And it really does hold ALOT of crap! I had 4 new tires, and 4 rims in the hatch with no problem!

I was thinking about putting my name down for one...but im not a fan of the front bumper, plus i needed a new car months back, i dont think i could have gone a whole year. And i was certainly not going to use the S2 as a daily driver. VW was taking orders beginning of 2003.
