By all means! Please keep meticulous records.

Once you get it running and set up I think you will keep the car longer than you know.

Pretty Penny? What i have found is a very limited market for these cars, as driving them takes an enormous amount of your resources (time,, money, effort). Most people just don't want to be bothered. My 85.5 has 116000 miles and I bought it for $3600. Decent shape but I know that this is a very tenuous love affair until I have replaced the timing belts, water pump etc.

I absolutely love the car though and cannot think of a better car to get for $3600. My Wife thinks I've hit my midlife crisis.

One more thing, I have found so many crap 944's out there. I spent 8 months looking for one and I've found that a lot of folks get these cars without any idea what they're getting into. Repair opportunities arise, and when they pile up high enough it overwhelms them. The car is then put up for sale and someone unsuspecting buys it and thinks he's getting a good deal, when in reality the PO's pronblems are dumped on him.

I would have about $3,000 tucked away for the after purchase repairs for most 944's.

I would rather know exactly what I had to repair than trust what the PO says was repaired.

<-- loves the FRWilk chip - for midrange power, cause it doesn't seem to have much without it... no more waiting for 4k to pass someone.

I've been shocked by some conversations I've had with sellers on Autotrader. Stuff that's considered common knowledge by everyone here is a total mystery to a LOT of them. My last call was to a guy in San Diego with a car listed as "well-maintained, excellent condition." He'd bought the car 5 years ago with 130k miles on it and no records, and had put on another 30k miles (for a total of 160,000 miles) then parked it for 3 years. He'd never checked or changed the timing belt, balance belts, or water pump during the five years. Oh, and the tires were out of round from sitting. (Well-maintained?!)

The sunroof latches were broken, carpets faded, the windshield had a bullseye, the rear hatch leaked, and both front seats had splits. (Excellent condition?!)

He was asking $4000 obo. It's not on Autotrader anymore, so someone went for it.

Defenetley go for a panel filter from K&N. Depending on how old and dirty the filter in their is now, if its anything like mine youll feel a little bit more pull on acceleration. With the radio off, i can also literally hear the air getting sucked in at the lower rpm range. But then again, i think anything would have been an improvment over mine...it originally was a yellow Mahle, which turned into a grey and black one over who knows how many years.

If you do any upgrades too the car, i would say just go with all suspension work. The faster you go in and come out of a turn, the less acceleration youll need to be doing! If your looking for a faster car, id say just save up and go the route of the 951.
