This is close to Silver Hill? I just have to get to both of them for a few days if not weeks!

See where the leading edge has been removed from the Enterprize.

Nice picture off the balcony except for the goofy looking guy in the way.

Great stuff! Absolutely incredible. I love jets and aviation. I wasnt a military brat or anything, but growing up in Dayton its kind of born into you I suppose. That place looks fantastic. If anybody else is really into this kind of thing, you should visit the USAF Museum here in Dayton. It sits on Huffman Prairie which is a big field where the Wright Brothers did 99% of their test flights before running over to Kitty Hawk real quick for the official. The museum was and still is the largest aviation museum in the world. Just added another big hangar. I think they just got a B-2 Bomber in a couple weeks ago.

Juxtaposed against the Enola Gay, Spirit of St. Louis etc thats at the NASM, the USAFM has the Boxcar (dropped bomb on Nagasaki), the lone XB-70 Valkrie bomber (maybe the wickedest plane ever built), of course a ton of Wright Brothers stuff, the other X-15 (NSAM has the other), SAM26000 (Kennedys 707 that flew his body back to DC and LBJ was sworn on), Tacit Blue I think, F117, F22, and pretty much any other model of plane ever built. I havent been out there in 4-5 years but its a 20min drive from my house and you can spend all day out there. I think they are up to almost 325 planes now.

Unlike the NASM, the USAFM is free!

Which space shuttle was that? I didn't realize that any had been retired.

Great slide show!

One of the guys I work with used to do avionics. He worked with the SR-71s for many years.

The Enterprise, IIRC, it was the prototipe of the shuttle, never went to space though.

I had an opportunity to go to the pre-opening ceremonies of the new facility. Unfortunately, by the time the invite came my way, I was already committed to something that I couldn't get out of. But I'll make it out there shortly, I'm sure.

It's a shame, though, that the Enola Gay was vandalized during the protests that first day.

S2nut: This is located by Dulles International Airport, about 30 miles west of Washington, DC.

BB.
