Default cable/wire disconnected on back of engine

Having not found out why my engine still fails to start i went over all the vaccum lines and wiring in the engine and found a wire at the back of the engine disconnected. The problem is i don't know where it goes/plugs into. The wire has a 3 prong plug on it, and has a rubber boot around the prongs.

This wire is from your temp sensor to your DME i believe. I had the same problem recently. The wire should be mounted in the bracket with the square whole attached to the block. My connector finally corroded away and was grounding on the bracket. Car seemed like there was a reduced power or no spark issue. When it failed to start I thought it was the DME relay. Purchased one from Pelican but while I was waiting for it to come in I went back over the engine and found the short. Long story short, I repaired the connector temporarily. I am still looking for the original connector. If any one knows the part number let me know.

Is the plug round like the O2 sensor connector? If so, it is probably from the TDC sensor that is only used for diagnostics and does not get connected. See part number 24 in the picture below.

My problem was actually number 17 in your diagram. What page of the manual is that digram. It appears that it will have the part number I need.

Wagz, Is this the smae wire your talking about?

Does this help? It's not from the manuals, it's from the PET program. What you are referring to are called the speed and reference sensors and they can definately cause a no start condition if they are bad or if they have their connectors reversed. They can also cause running problems as well if the connections aren't good or the sensor gap is wrong. Here is the link to a good reference for checking and adjusting them.

Rob, Thanks got the part number now I'll research the price and supliers. Thanks for the PET ref. I conducted a temporary fix using PVC tape to isolate and wrap the connection. The sensor connector that ran through the top of the bracket was so brittle it fell appart in my hands. The wires must have been arcing and then when they hit the bracket they shorted out. It really tee'd me off. At least I have a spare DME relay in the glove now.

Wagz, is this the wires you were talking about?

where does number 24 connect to cuz i think thats the connector thats out, looks like the same housing and the other end looks like what it is connected to. it is a 3 pin connector. would that cause my engine not to turn over because it is the tdc sensor.
