I had a coverlay on my '84. Look OK originally & then started warping around the front vents.

Comes with a "lifetime" warranty, so you can return.

I'm now going replacement used dash on my 968...

There was a company mentioned recently that will recover your dash. I got a quote for my 951. It was $550 and took 6 weeks. I would have to do a search for the name. They specialize in old American cars, but they can others as well.

James

Are you thinking of http://www.justdashes.com/

I'd be interested in knowing which company it is.

Does coverlay make a cover for the air bag cars. Mine has a huge crack right about the airbag, but it doesn't look like the cover would cover that.

The old one in my car was cut out around the pass. airbag. The PO did a pretty good job of it. When I install the new one I'll be disconnecting the bags.
EDIT- I added a pic of the thing. You can see how it was cut around the airbag, and see how bad it has cracked. When I get the new one on it should last a while since I keep the car garaged and will use a sunshade when it's parked outside.

My dash crack are not that bad *yet* but I may do the same eventually.
Especially since I want to drop in a 930S wheel.

Martin,
I believe you are correct. I got that quote last fall, but I cannot find it now. That's a pretty big jump for one year. Did you specify leather? I did not give a any requests such as that. I just wanted a new cover with the same materials as the OEM.

Maybe the airbags play a part in the price. I will have to hunt for the quote again.

The dash cover I ordered didn't quite fit my 944S2, so we got a nylon mat that matched the dash and cut it to fit properly. My wife added a trim around all the edges and used velcro to attach it. It's been great for around three years now.

The nylon is very non-reflective, so glare on the window from the dash is reduced.

I highly recommend the dashmat, not especially for aesthetics, but for preservation of the dash. I've used one on my 84 since new and the dash has no cracks to date. In the early years when parking in the sun I would put a special cover over the dash and steering wheel. Absolutely critical in the Texas heat.

One thing that still bugs me, I used to have an 85.5 NA, the dash was a mess. I found a PERFECT dash for it and swapped it out (Pain in the ***, but not a hard job)

I always took care of it, parked in the shade, covered it.
Sold the car to a good friend, he did not take care of it and it's now a total mess!
aargh!

Ideally I'd like to swap in a complete 968 interior in Classic Gray.
Hey, I can dream can't I?

Pete, so your going to just lay the cover right over the air bag opening? I wonder if that will look right and sit flat. How hard is it to disconnect the air bags? I may do the same thing.

I'm not taking the bag out, just disconnecting the wiring. I'm gonna replace the steering wheel with the 930S wheel also.
I drove an 85.5 with no airbags for a long time and always felt safe so I won't miss the airbags here.
