OT: Tools as a gift...

and last but not least - an extendable magnet. When you drop a washer or a nut, this thing will save you a ton of time and aggravation. They're cheap too
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, you drop one little nut down the side of the block and all of a sudden you need one of those? Okay, so when I did the same thing later it worked great to have. Thanks Brian, appreciate it. :>) This is a must have BTW, might also suggest a mirror built similarly and a stethoscope.

I Have had a Craftsman gugilion set for many years with a rolling tool chest. I have reverted to a plastic (go anywhere) case socket set of 1/4 & 1/2 metric & standard, A set of three high quality crescent wrenches, set of six good screw drivers and a double set of metric wrenches. I have found the smaller assortment of specific tools covers 90% of what you need. As you work on projects you will get stuff along the way. I like the cases for each, it makes cleanup / organizing much easier. It would probably take me ten minutes to find a specific socket in my chest of mayhem. What ever you decide, getting new tools is awsome.

the universal joint sockets that W88951 mentioned are also made by craftsman, i got my set at sears. and they really do help out with those hard to reach bolts, but at $45 for just the metrics, you have more important things to buy. i recommend a good multimeter.

No affiliation but I'm addicted to this site:
www.thetoolwarehouse.net
I could spend my life's savings there, if I didn't spend it already. Seriously good prices on really nice tools (S&K blows Craftsmen out of the water). They carry a lot of specialty stuff too. If only I had an extra $5k....and then another $5k and another....

This makes me realize that some of you guys probably have impressive tool collections. We should start a "Post pictures of your toolbox" thread.
I went over to the Civil Engineering squadron on base recently. That had this snap-on tool box that was about 5ft tall, 8ft long and about 4ft deep. Every draw was full of shiney Snap-On tools. They had never been used. They said they got it for some promotional thing. It was probably over $100k in tools. I know those huge tool boxes are several thousand dollars alone without any tools in them.
