Rear hatch struts

The hatch struts on the 931 were shot, so I decided to replace them. I couldn't find the actual, proper part numbers anywhere, for a reasonable price. Everything semi-cheap gets switched over to a 944 part number...are they really the same?
I did buy some aftermarket pieces that fit, after I swapped the ends to the ends from the old parts, but the lights don't come on properly (I've left the wires disconnected). They also feel pretty stiff, which didn't bother me until someone mentioned that replacing the old ones with stiffer ones can stress the hatch glass and cause problems.
Any thoughts on this? I can live with the light situation more than the hatch hitting me in the head situation, but I don't like the idea that this will make me reseal the glass at some point...

If you search under my forum name, I had a posting about using softer struts from a 1990-95 Jeep Wrangler.
If you don't find it, post back here and I will locate it for you.

I installed the Jeep hatch struts on my race car due to having a lexan rear hatch , and they are 1/3 the stiffness of the Porsche units.
From what i remember they were Monroe and were rather inexpensive and a direct replacement fit !

Do those Jeep parts work with the electrical bits for the interior lights?

Here's the info on the low pressure struts for the rear hatch. The replacement you want is for the 87-95 Jeep Wrangler.
https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...s-problem.html
Back Glass Lift Support 4761 for 87-95 Jeep Wrangler specs are here:
http://www.liftsupportsdepot.com/str...-strut-10248w/
The Wrangler length open and closed is the same as Porsche, but the lift pressure is lower.
The low pressure hatch strut is at Rock Auto with Sachs part number:
SACHS SG214008 1990 Jeep Wrangler
SACHS SG406008 1989 Porsche Hatch
SACHS SG406016 1989 Porsche Hood
In answer to "Do those Jeep parts work with the electrical bits for the interior lights" yes, but you will have to transfer over the Porsche end cap hardware and the insulator sleeve that operates the hatch light. It's not hard to do, but you have to proceed reasonably careful with 30 year old plastic.
BTW, I have to give credit to some unnamed poster on another forum who did a lot of research and recommended the Wrangler struts. If you know who you are, I can't thank you enough!
